Here’s some honest, heartfelt and hopefully friendly advice for #SWTOR fans: take a deep breath and know we’re making an amazing MMO that IS coming. Trust me. It’s coming. 🙂
The above was tweeted by Stephen Reid, Community Manager of The Old Republic. Having met the man I can tell you he is the least bulls**t person in marketing I’ve met so far. The quote above, it is actually his honest opinion. After seeing Friday, pre-E3, information blast we come closer to sharing his sentiment.
Information was released through the official site and its Friday Update as well as through Gamespot and MMORPG.com. What we know now from this info blast is what we can expect to find out more about at E3.
End game content (introducing the first raid The Eternity Vault)
High level gameplay on Tatooine with Imperial classes
New Cinematic Trailer (last of the trilogy)
Something about Alderaan (I am thinking PvPvE scenario)
Vehicles (mounts)
Auction house and social hubs
Next big thing is the trailer released on Gamespot that shows all of the game’s systems and for the first time we officially see player mounts, auction house and social hubs. You can see the trailer bellow:
Community surrounding The Old Republic keeps growing and we have reached a huge number of sites and different projects that devote themselves to following SWTOR. I think I’ve seen Tor Syndicate, a gathering of most TOR sites/guilds out there, reach 80 members the other day and it still keeps rising. It is nigh impossible to follow them all. It is even hard to keep track of the good ones in the crowd. That is why I wanted to try and present the ones that caught my eye this week to our visitors. With hopes of this becoming a regular article I present you the Community Tip for the first week of June.
Red Rancor V-Casts
Red Rancor has been around for a while and they are best known for their epic videos, like the 30 minute compilation of SWTOR screenshots released in the past 2+ years. They are now doing a regular V-Cast that is getting better with each episode. The latest episode is entitled “Full Auto” and you can listen about their thoughts on the upcoming E3, their video dissection of the trooper progression video and additional news and bits that caught their eye. The show is 20 minutes long with some great video effects and well thought out segments so check it out on their site or view it bellow:
My first hands on experience with The Old Republic was playing the trooper for 15 minutes at GamesCom 2010. Ever since then I have been leaning towards choosing to play this class once the game comes out. This is why today’s update, that shows us the Trooper class progressions video trailer, is very exciting (beside being totally cool and managing to hype me about the game yet again). One thing I’ve noticed is that they seem to have used the same Sith Inquisitor we’ve seen in the “Unlimited Power” Sith Inquisitor class trailer. Has Bioware decided to create a mini story through their promotional trailers? In the Inquisitor trailer we see her using stealth to overcome her enemies. We now see how this can be countered by a Trooper class. Can we expect in some future Empire class trailer to have them counter Trooper’s moves? I sure hope so, because these small “easter eggs” sure are exciting to report on.
This Friday update is Fan Friday and, for us, it is the most exciting update thus far. It is because SWTOR Life is featured in Fan Site Spotlight section and we got to answer a few questions in it. Feel free to check it out in the official news article.
During our last month’s visit to Bioware’s studio in Austin, Texas there was one moment I personally enjoyed almost more than playing the game. It was the Q&A session with the writing team of the Old Republic. Seeing all those people creating the awesome stories we’ll be experiencing in the game and hearing them talk about it openly and with clearly visible enthusiasm was just a perfect moment in time. I mean, I am a fan, there is no doubt of that, but, to see these people be just as enthusiastic about the game they are helping create was priceless. With hopes you will get to experience at least a small portion of what was felt in that room we bring you a video of the Q&A session with the writers and all of them talking about the favorite thing they’ve written for the game.
This year’s only Friday the 13th finally brought us full details about the Sith Inquisitor class in Star Wars: The Old Republic. From all the excitement in the official forums and on Twitter it is obvious that a lot of people were really looking forward to this update. Who doesn’t dream about roasting their enemies with some Force Lightning anyways? As it always seem to happen with these class updates, a lot of people suddenly changed their mind about what class they want to play at release. I personally, didn’t. In fact, this class update gave me so much comedic inspiration that I will have things to make fun of for days.
Lets get the important information out of the way first. One of the Inquisitor’s companions was revealed to be a genuine bad-ass called Khem Val. His species, the Dashade, are force-resistant and they actually feed on force users. This particular individual devoured over a thousand Jedi at the battles of Yn and Chabosh and you can read this and much more on his official page.
The Inquisitor, just like his force using brethren, Sith Warriors, will be using the Fury starship for traveling the galaxy. There is also a class video available that we posted about a few days ago. Below you will find a gallery of newly released in-game Inquisitor screenshots.
Gamespot got an exclusive chance to release a Sith Inquisitor Class trailer before anyone else. We presume this video will be part of a Friday update this or next week when we will be able to download it in full res on the official site. Until then, you can watch it down bellow:
Comments Off on Unlimited Power – Sith Inquisitor Class Video Trailer
As part of this Friday’s update, Bioware treated us with the Sith Warrior Progression video. The star of the video is a Sith pureblood and we can see how his skills, armor and looks change as he gets more powerful. In all honesty this is the best looking progression video we have seen so far, especially the high level armor the Sith Warrior gets to wear. If I may be honest I think that is probably the best looking armor I have ever seen in any MMO so far.
A funny anecdote about this video is that we got to preview it at last week’s Fan Site Summit. They wanted to release this video as part of last Friday update, but they missed the deadline by 30 minutes and had to delay it for this week. I really don’t mind, because a trailer this awesome is rewarding just as long as everyone gets to see it, no matter when.
We had the pleasure of attending the recording of show no. 100 of the longest lasting SWTOR podcast around – TOROCast. Here’s the unedited recording of the last 10 minutes of the event. I just wanted to put this out, even if it is raw footage, because I can not imagine us having any time for doing this in the next 24-48 hours.
Best to TOROCast.com and thanks for having us during such an important show. You can also find the recording of the whole show at justin.tv. Guys from TOR Syndicate broadcast-ed it live through there. There doing it live!
In a surprising mid-week update official SWTOR site released a video showcasing the highlights of the Old Republic’s presence at Penny Arcade Expo in Boston. We can see the excitement of the crowds and how awesome the booth looked. If you look closely you can see various well known faces from the SWTOR community and Corellian Run Radio is keeping a list of all that they spotted. Oh, and props to the honeymoon couple and the girl in princess Leia costume.
