Galaxy’s Most Wanted: Drusylla
This week’s Most Wanted comes to us from the Dark Side. A long-time WoW player who traded swords for lightsabers and bows for blasters, Drusylla will be a great member of the SWTOR community.
What is your name and/or handle?
My handle is Drusylla. I’ve had it for over 12 years. Bonus points if you can figure out where I got it from.
Age?
I am 28 going on 83. I have always been very mature for my age. I guess being an only child will do that!
What is your occupation in real life?
I am a licensed cosmetologist with an associates in business. My main job is being a mom to three children ages 4, 6, and 8. They keep me pretty busy. I am also raising them to be gamers like their father and myself.
What Guild do you belong to?
I am in Vindicated: www.vindicatedguild.com Parker, the GM, found me on Twitter. I think I was nerd raging about World of Warcraft and he invited me to check out the guild for SWTOR. I fell in love with what the guild had to offer. I felt like I had found my dream guild. I applied immediately.
What MMO have you devoted most of your time to in the past and why?
Like everyone else, I spent most of my time on World of Warcraft. I started playing when The Burning Crusades came out because of my mom. Before WoW, my mom and I would get our nails done every two weeks as our mother/daughter time. When she started playing WoW, she would cancel on me and claim she was doing things for the house. I eventually called her on it and she ended up buying me the game and the expansion so I wouldn’t yell at her, lol. About a month after I started playing, my husband wanted to play too.
I finally gave WoW up a few months after Cataclysm. I was getting sick and tired of all the elitist attitudes. Towards the end, I was even getting harassed by people from the random dungeons. That was my cue that I needed to find a new game to play.
What class and advanced class are you planning to make your main? What playstyle are you going to choose?
I originally wanted to play a Sith Inquisitor Assassin (tank). I love the dual-lightsaber and I always had a thing for Darth Maul. But that all changed when I played a Powertech Bounty Hunter in beta. I tanked a few instances in beta and absolutely fell in love. A tank with ranged capabilities? Why didn’t anyone think of this?
I am very new to tanking. I started tanking in RIFT after I gave up my healer role. I had been a healer all throughout my WoW days and I wanted to try something different. I quite enjoy being all beefed up and taking the big hits so my party can work their magic and kill bosses. It is very empowering for me.
What classes have you had a chance to play so far? What has been your favorite?
That should be more of what haven’t I played. I’ve played everything except the Jedi Knight. My two favorites have been the Sith Inquisitor and the Bounty Hunter. I love their storylines. If I go Republic down the line, I will definitely be playing the Trooper and the Smuggler.
What made you interested in joining The Old Republic?
Two things really: Vindicated and beta. If Vindicated hadn’t picked me up and hyped the game, I wouldn’t have given TOR a second glance. If I never got to play the beta, I never would have seen how awesome this game is going to be.
I’m sure I would have played eventually since I play almost every MMO that comes out, but it definitely wouldn’t have been at the top of my list.
What is your most anticipated feature in TOR and why?
The storylines had me the second I logged in. I have been an RPG player since I was six years old. My mom got me into the Final Fantasy series. That was just the gateway. I love RPGs with an engaging storyline that makes you sad when you have to turn the game off.
Nowadays, MMORPGs don’t have that engaging storyline. They are more concerned with getting the player to maxed level and geared up for raiding. Most MMO players think that is all there is to the genre: endgame raiding.
What happened to the journey of your character? What happened to caring about what your character went through? All the challenges your character had to face and conquer? Those don’t exist anymore and it’s quite sad.
BioWare literally put the RPG back into the MMO. It’s refreshing to play a game where it isn’t wall of text, click accept, complete objective, turn in, rinse and repeat. There are actual stories behind the quests you are doing and you have choices that affect the outcome!
Do you classify yourself as hardcore, casual, or something else entirely?
I consider myself casual because I’m not obsessed with getting to endgame in record time, and I’m not gear obsessed. I enjoy the game for what it is. I never liked the idea that I was paying for a subscription to get yelled at by the GM because I’m not maxed level in three weeks or other players because I don’t have the top gear.
I also enjoy helping out other people with whatever they need help with. You need mats? I’ll help you farm. Need a run-through on that dungeon? Sign me up!
My other gamer friends consider me hardcore simply because of the amount of time I spend playing an MMO. I have lots of free time and I love playing games in my free time.
Don’t ask how much time I spend playing. The answer would make you cringe 😉
How do you plan to go through your storyline? Do you plan on going Light Side, Dark Side, or will you be “Grey”? Why do you want to play this way?
I have always gravitated towards the dark side. I always thought the evil characters got jipped. Why does good have to triumph all the time? It starts becoming predictable. You know the good guy is going to win. Why bother with the ending?
I plan on having two dark sided characters and two light sided characters. I love how the Dark Side changes your appearance so you get to look more evil and ugly the further down the Dark Side you go. I think light sided characters should get something other than titles.
Besides, the Dark Side is more fun. They have cookies!
What game mechanic do you see yourself devoting most of your time to?
I plan on keeping busy with all aspects of the game. There is so much it offers I want to explore it all.
Of course, once I hit max level, I will be more focused on raiding and crafting. And leveling another alt. I am such an altoholic.
What has been your most memorable Star Wars moment?
I have never been a die-hard Star Wars fan (no, I am not a Trekkie). I do enjoy the movies (minus the first three episodes, which as far as I’m concerned, don’t exist).
When I was in 8th grade, we watched the Star Wars movies in my English class. We had to compare and contrast Star Wars with the King Arthur stories. So now, I really can’t watch Star Wars without automatically finding all the parallels and the differences between Luke Skywalker and King Arthur. Thanks, Mrs. Samson!
