Old Republic Lore “On The Cheap”
Star Wars: The Old Republic is slightly less than two months away. This is great news in many ways! But for many people, it can also be a source of frustration as more and more Old Republic related books are released. Let’s face it, TOR isn’t cheap and the current world economy isn’t exactly the best right now. I am sure that there are many people out there who may have had their financial reality make the choice of the version of TOR they are getting, rather than what they actually wanted. And forget buying the novels, graphic novels and other items.
If you haven’t played Knights of the Old Republic, or its sequel yet, both can be found for relatively cheap online in most cases – but there is an even cheaper method of getting your hands on all of this stuff that you may not have considered. Your local library. I know, for books, it is like saying, “Did you know that water is wet?” But stick with me a moment. With the internet, many people have stopped thinking about their local libraries, which is a shame. I already have Revan on hold at my library for when it comes out. Sure, if I can buy or win a copy, that will be a lot better – but until that happens, at least I know that I will be able to read the book not too long after it comes out.
Also, did you know that libraries are now lending out video games? I can get a copy of KotOR and KotOR II from my local library. They also have Wii, X-Box and PlayStation games. If your local library doesn’t have it, you can do an inter-library request and have it shipped from another library to your own at no cost. It may take a little while, but at least you get a chance to experience the Lore you were otherwise missing out on.
So, if you are running low on cash, or just want to brush up on The Old Republic Lore without spending any money, head on down to your local library and see what they have to offer. TOR is still almost 2 months away – plenty of time to brush up on your Lore.

Great advice. I know we have a very nice library near by here in Indiana. It’s really amazing and has far more stuff than you would think a library would have.
You can also get tons of movies and TV series from the library to help entertain you through the next few weeks until TOR comes out. Really great advice, I’m sure most people wouldn’t have thought of this.
Also, my wife tells me that some places are now offering free Kindle books. You can download it for a certain amount of time, or something of that nature. You just go onto their WiFi I believe with the Kindle and can DL it for a short while. I don’t know all the details but everyone should check with their local library if they have this feature and get more details.
My mom actually works at the local public library. It’s quite amazing how many new Star Wars books they get. The library itself also sells donated books. Some of these books are rather ancient, but on occasion, you’ll find something rather new show up. If the library already has a copy, they’ll just sell it for a tenth or even less of the original price! My mom saves the Star Wars donated books for me, and I tell her which ones I have. I’ve obtained Fatal Alliance (hardcover in fact) for just 1 dollar. I also have gotten about 5-10 other Star Wars books this way. I have not seen Deceived show up yet but am waiting for it and Revan. Already read Deceived when I reserved and checked it out of course!
Good idea. and ‘Ajay’, that’s really great! The swtor game developed by bioware is now nearing the release date, and I’m sure that star wars books and all other stuffs will be a hit! Lots of people will be looking for anything star wars, and collectibles. I’ll check my local library if I can get something.
Slightly unrelated, but still relevant all the same, my local Waterstones has started stocking shed loads of Star Wars related books in the last 2 week or so. I think this is gonna be big, or …”It’s a trap!!!”
