[Feedback] Group Finder |
1339448580 |
So, some of you may have seen my posts in the forums and might have been wondering, “Who is this person?” Well, here it is! My name is Antonia “Toni” Phillips; I’m an industry veteran who has been working on SWTOR for the last two years, most recently with the Group Finder team.
A solid Group Finder system is very important to us and we have been keeping a close eye on the forums and your feedback. We are evaluating all of the feedback from the PTS and I wanted to take a moment to respond to the most popular topics we’ve seen.
Thanks for all the responses and keep it coming!
Shuttling to Starting Location:
One of the issues most commonly noted is that you are not returned to your original location when you end/exit a Flashpoint or Operation.
This is not a bug; let me explain that a little bit better!
In the game today, without the Group Finder, when you exit a Flashpoint or Operation you are NOT shuttled back to your original location - you're taken to the entrance.
Although this is currently how the Flashpoint and Operation exit technology functions, we understand the importance of modifying this functionality, especially for the Group Finder. We already have a plan to provide this as soon as possible. The moment we know what update this can be included with, we will let you know!
Tiers of Flashpoints:
What is the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2 Flashpoints, you ask? Difficulty! Tier 2 Flashpoints are more difficult than Tier 1 and we felt that it wouldn’t be a good experience to place undergeared players into groups where they couldn’t meaningfully perform their assigned role. To support this, Tier 2 Flashpoints will be disabled by default and must be actively enabled through the Group Finder filters. Although there is only a single selection (Lost Island) for Tier 2 right now, there will be more in the future.
In addition, Tier 1 and Tier 2 Flashpoints share the same Group Finder daily reward mission. As we gather feedback when this feature goes live we will be making changes to the reward structure as needed.
Gear Score:
While we may never implement a “Gear Score” system, we understand the need to correctly match players with appropriate content. We also understand the need to match groups with a high chance for success. We are currently evaluating several ideas to improve this.
Ignore lists and Group Finder:
Quick Tip: if you place a player on your ignore list you will never be matched in a Group Finder group with that player. Although we have a loading screen tip already implemented for this option, we realize that we will need to more clearly communicate this.
Advanced Classes and Roles:
The roles that you are allowed to queue for in Group Finder are based on your Advanced Class and not your skill point allocation. For example, if you are a Jedi Sage you can queue for both Damage and Healing. We know that this option launches in advance of multi-speccing. However, once you launch Group Finder you can limit yourself to a specific role if you so choose.
Queuing Order:
Group Finder attempts to place you into a group by evaluating potential group matches in a specific order. This order is matched to the in-game order displayed in the Group Finder window. For example, at level 50, Group Finder will first check if you can form a valid Operation, and if not, it will then check Hard Mode Flashpoints, and so on. The specifics:- At level 50 this will be in the following order: Story Mode Operations, Hard Mode Flashpoints Tier 1, Hard Mode Flashpoints Tier 2, Flashpoints, Planetary Destinations
- Under level 50 this will be in the following order: Flashpoints, Planetary Destinations
Planetary Destinations:
You want more content controls for Planetary Destinations and so do we! We know that planetary destinations are an area of improvement for Group Finder in future releases, and we're looking at more options, like adding directly selectable Heroic Missions and world bosses.
As we form our plan for future improvements, one of the pieces we need the most is your feedback. We are in the process of evaluating potential designs for player-set group size and specific mission queuing, among many others.

Hi folks, as promised, we have investigated this issue after seeing how a large number of people didn't have their characters copied (based on the amount of posts in this thread), we decided to go back and manually re-enter those accounts again. Many of you that signed up on Friday should now see your characters copied over.
There was an error involved in one of the manual processes in character copying and we have since rectified this. We apologize for any misunderstanding.
Please enjoy playing on the Public Test Server! |

Community Q&A Blog Discussion: June 8th, 2012 |
1339429860 |
I'd like to talk a little more about how we select questions for the Q&A and what its goals are. The intent of the Community Q&A is for us to answer some specific game-related questions from the community - especially those about how something works or why we chose to make something work in a particular way. Sometimes, we can answer questions about upcoming content (when we have the information), and sometimes we'll address concerns or questions about upcoming changes (such as class changes in an update or other changes that are of interest to the community).
However, we don't use it to answer questions based on the popularity of the question - for big things that we know are very important to the community (like upcoming character transfers), we'll use standalone blogs or similar methods as soon as we have information to share instead of waiting to put it in a Q&A. We are always very aware of what the important issues are in the community, and we're dedicated to addressing those as soon as we're able, but the Community Q&A is not the venue we'll generally use to address that kind of topic. We also may not be able to answer some questions about upcoming content if we have no new details or information to share.
Thanks to everyone for your continuing participation in the Community Q&A! |

This is just the tip of the iceberg on feedback, and I encourage everyone that is contributing to the PTS Feedback to be as specific as possible in addressing concerns, rather than the all-too-common "The sky is falling" and "ZOMG Nerfs!" threads that do little except capably demonstrate that we silly humans are terrified of change.
Thank you very much for being constructive and specific. This kind of feedback, which isn't alarmist and is thought-out and detailed, is exactly the kind of feedback we hope to see more of on the PTS. Having specific details about what players like or don't like helps us provide good feedback! |

Allison relayed that character copies were done for today and that players who filled out their surveys incorrectly, may not have copied over. One of the most common reasons why a copy fails is a mistake somewhere on the survey, but of course, other factors may be a cause. In fact, on the PTS blog we state:
We cannot guarantee that every character will copy to the PTS successfully, however we can assure you that characters on Live servers will not be affected in any way should the tool fail. If you notice that you filled out the survey but your character did not copy, please fill out the survey again.
We know you are all excited to play, but please also allow for constructive discourse. |

There could be additional reasons for a character copy to fail (which we'll investigate) that are unknown, but one reason we could identify was not filling out the survey correctly. For any that failed for other reasons, we still may not be able to copy those characters, but we'll investigate the causes. |

Official Q&A Thread for June 15th Blog Post |
1339171500 |
Hello and welcome to the official Q&A thread for questions to be answered for the June 15th, 2012 Q&A blog post.
As a reminder, well be starting up a weekly Q&A blog series in which we will select questions from the community and post answers to them every Friday. Well have the next set of answers next week on June 15th, 2012, but before that, we need your questions!
Please use this thread to ask your question (one per community member, so make it count!). On Monday at 2PM CDT (8PM BST/9PM CEST/5AM AEST), we will close this thread, select the questions, and get answers to them for Fridays blog post.
In order to increase the chances of having your specific question answered and to help us keep the thread manageable, here are some guidelines on asking questions:
- Keep your question relatively short. Background details are welcome, but dont go overboard.
- Please actually ask a question. We want to hear constructive feedback elsewhere in the Forums.
- Use common sense we cannot answer everything, especially on far-reaching content.
- This should go without saying, but be respectful.
- Limit yourself to one question in this thread, please. You can always ask another question next week!
- And finally, as a reminder, this is not a discussion thread. Do not comment about what somebody else has posted.
As development plans are always subject to change, questions about future features will often get vague answers which can be repetitive and sometimes annoying. With that in mind, the development team is more interested in questions about current in-game features or systems, or questions about why development decisions were made. Youre still welcome to ask questions about future features and well continue to answer them where appropriate just expect the occasional soon.
Any other posts apart from questions in the thread will be removed.
With that being said, please ask away! |

Hey smithre, thank you for your post. I actually did address this in an earlier post:
"Additionally, players need not worry about rushing to transfer as free character transfers between selected servers will remain available for as long as it is needed to help balance server populations naturally. Rest assured that if we ever decide to stop this free character transfer service, players will be given plenty of advanced notice." |

|
This is simply not correct. From my previous post:
"In order to ensure an optimal playing experience for every server, well be offering direct transfers from one origin server to a pre-selected destination server. This means that the destination server will already be selected for the origin server. As mentioned in our blog post, all server types and languages will be respected. You will not find your PvE characters transferred to a PvP server, or vice versa.
Therefore, all guild members on the origin server will be eligible to transfer to the same destination server, ensuring that the guild has the opportunity to stay together.
...
Please note that we will not be dividing the population of an origin server onto multiple destination servers for this free character transfer process."
With this information, you can see that you do not need to transfer at the same exact time.

There will be a full FAQ published on Tuesday to answer most of your questions, but I wanted to go ahead and answer these two.
1. Due to a variety of factors (including the naming and re-naming process after transferring characters), this was deemed to be the most efficient method in assuring that Guilds retain their Guild Banks on the new server.
2. Yes, you will have to:- Remove all items & credits from the Guild Bank.
- Disband the Guild.
- Transfer to the new server and reform the Guild.
- Contact Customer Service to re-establish the Guild Bank and Guild Bank tabs.
Hopefully that answers your question.

Some form of feedback about where you stand in the queue would also be nice, as I currently can't tell if it's just taking my healer an hour to find a group because there's a specific role missing or I'm bugged.

There are a few bugs that were introduced in the latest build, which is the first build that went to PTS, that impact getting the correct (or any) augment slot component from Reverse Engineering. These bugs will be corrected in upcoming PTS builds before the system goes live.

I would like to know if there will be an option to use the LFG tool with a premade group? It will be nice if we can get the benefits of the LFG dailies with some friends that you can coordinate better
Yes, you can queue for Group Finder with pre-made groups. However, only the Group Leader can queue your group as a whole. - Once you are a part of a pre-made group, you will not be able to queue individually until you leave the group.
- If you are queued as a group and you are not the Group Leader, the Group Finder will display the content that the Group Leader queued you for.
You can queue with a full group that is valid for the content. For example, for a Flashpoint, you'll need to have characters to fill the tank and healer roles.
If your Group is not valid when the Group Leader attempts to queue, it will display a message and give you the opportunity to change roles for the group.
You can also queue with a partial group. When you queue with a partial group in Group Finder and you are matched with other players for content you will be formed into a new group. |

From what the dev has posted i think that they are going to let us transfer off any server and go to any light server i think.
This is not correct. We'll be providing a list of origin servers and destination servers. Each origin server will have one destination server, and players can elect to transfer their characters from the origin server to the destination. Our goal is to have destination servers with a much higher active player population, so we'll be monitoring the process and adding new origin and destination pairs as necessary to reach that goal. |

We haven't finalized the initial list of origin and destination servers. We know everyone is eager to see them, and we will provide them when we're able - we don't want to provide a list and then have to change it. |

When do we get to pick where we want to transfer, Allison?
How much will it inevitably cost?
Right now, we're just talking about the free character transfers - like it mentions in the blog, more options may become available in the future, but that's all we've said as of now. |

OK, I see one big, big problem. Let me quote the article:
"We're sure many of you are interested to learn which servers are eligible for outgoing transfers and which servers are eligible to receive transfers. However, because the process will be gradual, we cannot provide that information in advance. Depending on the number of characters transferred, the destination and origin servers eligible for transfer may be altered during the process. We don't want to promise a destination in case it may change."
What I interpret this to mean, is there's no guarantee my guildmates will end up transfered to the same server as me (I'm the GM of a guild on Kinrath Spider)
I'd love to get clarification on this
It looks like this line is causing a little bit of confusion. Hopefully I can help clear that up! What we're saying here is that we're unable to provide the origins and destinations in advance because those lists may change internally as we watch the response to transfers. We'll be monitoring populations and how many players are transferring, which will inform our decisions about further origin and destination servers. We won't be changing the destination on you once it's announced, we just don't want to announce a pair too early. |

But then that opportunity is limited in time and/or the destination server changes suddenly without warning and we still have half of our guild trying to transfer off the origin server or we have a couple integral members on vacation for the week and completely miss being able to transfer. Suddenly we either have to choose to keep the whole guild on a suddenly dead server or screw over a chunk of our guild members and leave without warning to them.
Like I said this transfer is definitely a very good thing and happy it is sooner then later. But not having some sort of guild transfer function could be problematic.
|
Many guild leaders have contacted us with their concerns about coordinating their guild members in preparation for the free character transfer service and I wanted to take some time to explain how this process will work.
In order to ensure an optimal playing experience for every server, we’ll be offering direct transfers from one origin server to a pre-selected destination server.
As we mentioned in our blog, the character transfer service will be made available gradually, starting with a small number of origin servers and adding more until all servers eligible for transfer are available in the service. We know everyone is excited for the opportunity to transfer their characters, but it is critical that we do this gradually to ensure both a smooth transfer as well as a great player experience on the destination servers.
Eligible servers will be listed as they become available for transfers at www.swtor.com/transfer, which will go live on Tuesday. This is to prevent potential server load issues.
Please note that we will not be dividing the population of an origin server onto multiple destination servers for this free character transfer process.
Additionally, players need not worry about rushing to transfer as free character transfers between selected servers will remain available for as long as it is needed to help balance server populations naturally. Rest assured that if we ever decide to stop this free character transfer service, players will be given plenty of advanced notice.
We hope that this clarifies any confusion. |

1338990900 |
The following issues are present in the most recent version of Game Update 1.3 on the Public Test Server. We are working to correct them as soon as possible. Thank you for helping us test the new game content!
Public Test Server - High-Priority Known Issues
UPDATED: 6/8
General- Some conversation options are not displaying in French and German.
- Players are currently unable to harvest any resource nodes without a Companion Character summoned.
- When Anti-Aliasing is set to “High,” intractable objects will not display as “glowing.”
Flashpoints and Operations- For the Directive 7 Flashpoint, Bulwark is currently being greedier than intended and is only dropping credits and crafting crystals.
Group Finder- Group Finder will not allow players to select or queue for content that is already listed in their Mission Log.
Workaround: Players must complete or abandon any Flashpoint or Operation missions that are currently in the Mission Log and then refresh the user interface (CTRL+U twice) to have the grayed out content display as available.
- In a rare occasion, the Group Finder lockout timer (displayed as an icon) will stop displaying in the Group Finder window. The lockout is still active on the player, and it will reset 15 minutes after accepting a Group Finder invite.
- When in a Group Finder group, Role Icons on the group and operation frames are not properly reflecting the assigned role of that player character. The tooltips when mousing over the Role Icons are correct.
- Players are not currently informed when being placed into a Group Finder group that is in progress, rather than beginning a new objective. Players can toggle the option to join "In Progress" groups via the destination filter for each content category.
- In rare instances, players who are queued using Group Finder may form a group that contains no other players.
Workaround: Players must either exit their instance and wait the lockout timer to clear (about 15 minutes) or wait for the Group Finder Acceptance Window to time out (2 minutes).
UI- Shift+Click does not currently link items in the chat window.
- Players are not currently able to split stacks of items in the inventory window, because clearing the value will fill as "NaN" and not allow further entry.
Items- Certain items that once contained augment slots are not currently modifiable due to the slots being unavailable.

The only question/suggestion that I have Is why doesn't the guild bank move with the guild leader when they transfer? GM has unlimited access anyway, so if they wanted to ninja it they could anyway. I don't understand the reasoning behind needing to put a ticket in for the guild bank.
Also do we need to move all items out of the guild bank before the move and the ticket will only revive the slots the guild has purchased or will the ticket move all items and money from one guild bank to the new server?

Class changes and balance in Game Update 1.3 |
1338933660 |
Senior Designer Austin Peckenpaugh lets us in on details around class changes and balance in Game Update 1.3.
Quote:
I think it’s important to first communicate that not all class changes are meant to address balance. In fact, I try and treat usability, quality of life, and balance all as equal parts of good class design. To that end, when class changes come to a server near you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your class was “too good” or “too bad” prior to the patch. In fact, it’s just as likely that these changes are meant to address kinks or even pains in your day-to-day play, ability functionality, and rotations.

There are a couple reasons something may not be on the known issues list. One of the biggest factors we base the known issues list on is visibility - how many players are actively reporting it, how many threads or posts we see here and on other sites, etc. If we didn't see lots of very visible reports, it's possible that it simply wasn't considered for the public list. Another factor can be whether or not we still need reports on the issue (as someone guessed above) - if we're having trouble reproducing it or need more information, placing it on the known issues list can discourage people from reporting it because they see that we know about it already (even if we were to note we want more reports, the general impact is that we'll get less reports). Sometimes items are on the list because they are high-priority issues that are easily visible.
We appreciate you providing your feedback on this issue and the known issues list. We'll be working to improve the list, and though we won't ever list every issue we're aware of on it (it wouldn't be practical for players reading the list for us to include, say, minor art bugs like a visible seam or slightly misplaced rock), we're going to keep improving listings to include more bugs like the one you've reported here. |

Hey Philosomanic!
First off - while we do try to track high-priority known issues on the known issues list, not everything will end up there, though it doesn't mean we're not working on it! We often choose items for the known issues based on the volume of reports and complaints we're seeing, but they aren't the only things we're fixing.

Will 1.3 bring new lower graphics options? |
1338825780 |
Allison, does that include general engine optimization for all settings? You mention improvements and optimizations for lower-spec machines, but we know that there's general performance issues that affect everyone. Can we expect improvements on that coming in 1.3 too?
Cheers.
In general, large updates include some performance optimizations for the game, and that includes 1.3. Now, not every player is going to see a huge leap in performance, but we are always working on improving it across the spectrum. |

We're always working on improving the performance of the game, and we do have more improvements for players on lower-spec machines coming in 1.3. This may not include new, lower settings, but optimizations should help many players using those machines. |

Because the PTS is not a "normal" server, it will experience downtime that our other live servers do not experience. The main goal for the PTS is to provide players the ability to assist us in testing upcoming Game Update content, but it is not guaranteed to have the same server uptime or updates as the other servers. Though you can play on PTS (and we encourage you to help test whenever new content is deployed), you will experience more interruptions if you choose to make it a permanent home - its real purpose is for testing, not for permanent play. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope this gives you some more information about the PTS. |

Official Q&A Thread for June 8th, 2012 Q&A Blog Post |
1338577500 |
Hello and welcome to the official Q&A thread for questions to be answered for the June 8th, 2012 Q&A blog post.
As a reminder, well be starting up a weekly Q&A blog series in which we will select ten questions from the community and post answers to them every Friday. Well have the next set of answers next week on June 8th, 2012, but before that, we need your questions!
Please use this thread to ask your question (one per community member, so make it count!). On Monday at 2PM CDT (8PM BST/9PM CEST/5AM AEST), we will close this thread, select ten questions, and get answers to them for Fridays blog post.

Dear Community Team, a humble opinion |
1338563460 |
First of all, thanks for being constructive with your post - we appreciate it when people express something that can be frustrating while being nice. I hope this will shed a little light on why you see so much "soon" sometimes:
We like to give out solid dates when we have them, no doubt about that. However, we also want you to know about things we're working on - sometimes before they have a solid date.
We do try to balance: the community wants to know what's going on, what's on the table, and what's coming for the game. We also want you to know that information, but in game development, deadlines and dates shift very often as a result of the multitude of variables that are part of the process (one example is having serious bugs come up in testing that require time to address). This means that we sometimes need to be vague about when a feature or change is coming.
We don't want to give dates and then constantly adjust them because that creates confusion and plenty of frustration, but we do want you to know what we're working on. This often leads to us having to be vague in order to provide information, but we're always working toward the goal of delivering a date to you for anything that's coming up. We know that the vagueness can be frustrating, but silence can be, too, and we want to give you information! We'll keep working to get dates whenever we can, but I can't promise you won't see another "soon" when we talk about future plans. |

Someone said this sounds great? This is bad news my friend. They have not even finished INITIAL development on this. They still have testing, and bug fixing to go..... Means server transfers will not go live for many, many weeks yet. :-( (This system should have been worked on in BETA, not months after launch)
I'm not sure why you think that, as I wrote "Weve just about finished up on the development side of things..." meaning that we're about to engage in testing. |

I know you are all eager for information regarding character transfers and I just wanted to let you all know that this is definitely a studio wide priority. We’ve just about finished up on the development side of things, but in order to ensure a high quality service, the system needs to undergo extensive testing. The testing cycle, as some of you may know, is variable and highly dependent on a number of things. With that being said, as soon as this process is complete and we are confident in the quality of the service, you can expect to hear more detailed information. |

I reported a similar bug where in a specific quest the last bonus boss and the computer to activate to finish the quest are equally easy to get to and in the same instance. If you kill the boss then activate the computer you complete the bonus and the quest, you activate the computer and then kill the boss... no bonus. I reported that a month ago. Still not in the known issues list.
If one is visible enough to make the list, shouldn't the other? It just seems that what makes the list is arbitrary and insufficient to keep people from tripping over (and having to report) bugs that you already know about, which wastes our time, supports time and r&d time.
|
It's likely that the bug you're talking about is already known as well, but it may not be in the known issues list if we needed more reports about it or if it was a less visible mission. Please do report it with the in-game CS tool, though! |

Or if you were lucky enough to catch the eye of particular devs/etc.
|
You're right in that the known issues list on the forums isn't a comprehensive list of all the in-game issues. The goal of that list is primarily to make sure highly-visible issues that impact many players are listed. That doesn't mean that other reports go into a black hole, and we do encourage you to use in-game Customer Service to report bugs. This way, they'll be put into the system for sure. Once a bug is entered (and once it's checked to see if it has already been entered), the time to fix it varies, since we have to prioritize bug fixes based on resources for each specific fix. On the forums, we do try to post when we (on the community team) have passed an issue along, but the in-game CS portal is the best way to report individual bugs. |

The forums are a great way to provide feedback (cue me as a broken record: as long as it is constructive and specific). Many of us on the team are always monitoring the forums and reading threads in all the subforums. Additionally, the Community Representatives send us their own reports that detail feedback and important issues. Unfortunately, sometimes we can't always respond to an issue immediately, especially if we have incomplete information or need further investigation, but we are always reading and passing feedback along (and, of course, always working to bring the community answers and details when we're able to share them). |

I have an interesting question for you guys.
We get asked a lot "What do you (the players) want? What features, Ops, etc do would you like to see in the future of this game?"
Well, what does the Community Team of SW:TOR want? What does the future community look like to you guys? Are there any new features you would like to see in-game or on the forums that would help out immensely with your jobs?
That's a very good question and the truth is that we're aiming for a future in which we have a closer collaboration between you folks, us (the community team), and the development team. I believe that with the new specialty initiative (the one I mention in the blog post), we'll be getting closer to that. Once the infrastructure is set up, the goal is to be more agile in responding to questions and concerns (from the community team POV). As for the game? Well, we're players too so we all have different opinions on this. I love exploring in our game, so I'd personally love to see new planets down the line. |

One thing that I'd like to see if the Community Managers could assist with is getting a response to the current sound issues ...
Since 1.2, we have been monitoring the threads about sound issues carefully. However, the problem is not isolated to one or even a few individual bugs. Rather, there have been multiple (sometimes overlapping) problems - some with similar symptoms. Thus far, weve been able to address several of the prominent issues like the jet engine and other loud noise on the fleet (1.2.0c, 1.2.1 ) and sounds stacking when getting multiple PvP medals (1.2.2), and we havent stopped working on fixes for other issues that youre seeing, such as sound that crackles or losing sound gradually and/or randomly.
Your reports surrounding issues are always helpful when theyre ongoing and/or complex (and when theyre not!), so please dont hesitate to add information and details to existing threads if you are seeing problems. Thanks for all of the details and information youve already given! o/\o

Now here's my question. How forthcoming are you allowed to be with the community? Are you able to acknowledge problems and/or mistakes or are you forced to not denounce the company in any way? I'm trying to word this carefully, because if i don't, it kinda answers itself if you don't answer at all..hehe. I guess what I'm asking is are you here to represent Bioware or to represent us?
Hopefully this will answer the question: one of our biggest priorities has always been to be advocates for the community and their concerns to the developers directly. A great deal of what we do involves communicating the community's feedback. On the other side, we always work to bring information to the community, and that can mean everything from blogs about new features to communicating information when we have unexpected issues or extended maintenance. Like I've mentioned, we can't always share information right away, but it's always our goal to get information to the players about things that are important to you. |

community blog and news section (which does have a 1.3 overview link, though it isn't as detailed as patch notes) for content similar to what you're requesting, but it would certainly be worth looking into a more static "coming soon" page.
Regarding the patch notes: we do know they are of great interest to our players, but we typically release them alongside updates on the PTS and live servers. Previously, weekly updates were available on PTS (so players on live servers would get the notes "early"), but we are now using PTS only for larger game updates. We plan to continue releasing notes alongside updates (the 1.3 notes will be available when 1.3 is available on PTS), but won't likely release notes earlier than that - they change frequently up until release, and releasing them early would make them prone to inaccuracies. We also work to provide blogs alongside changes to features to help explain, from the developer's point of view, why those changes were made, and we'll continue doing that as well! |

Is there a community representative independent of the PVP or PVE representative who's goal is to explain the reasoning behind class changes, or is that mostly going to remain limited to developer posts after class changes have already been pushed to live servers?
|
I'm very glad that you brought this up. As a reminder, we on the community team work with the development team, but we're not developers. With that being said, our philosophy has always been that it's best to have them explain any changes or new features that they've been working on.
To that end, we have several blogs that are currently either being written or in the process of being approved for posting regarding upcoming changes in Game Update 1.3, and yes, class changes is one of those blog posts.
I know you all hate this word, but expect the first of these blog posts to coincide with Game Update 1.3's deployment onto PTS... very soon. |

I was excited to see the original update post today, but I feel so uplifted seeing the DevTracker full of new posts!
I think a lot of people are disheartened without some connection to the game-makers; if we don't hear any news, we have no idea what's going on. "Maybe everything is going according to plan, or maybe everyone on the team got fired ( ) including the person who updates the website and we'll never know!" Being able to talk to you guys about problems or things we enjoy about the game is really nice for the community, and I hope we hear from you often!
We definitely want to participate with you all and keep you as updated as possible. As a really avid gamer myself, I know what it's like to have to wait for information and to be frustrated when there isn't anything new, but unfortunately sometimes we're just not able to give more details until everything is 100% ready. We do know that reminding people about the information we HAVE given is important, so do be on the lookout for posts from us that direct people to the information we've already posted, as well as other posts and blogs! Thanks for your feedback |

The events that were in Davids capable hands definitely still remain! You can look forward to seeing SWTOR at both San Diego Comic-con and Star Wars Celebration later this year. If I may steal your words, it is definitely the goal of the Community team that Star Wars: Celebration VI will be the big event for the trade show season!

It's certainly understandable to be cautious of any new changes, but I wanted to let you know that I've worked several years as a Community Manager prior to BioWare, but that's not why I wanted to respond to this.
I've already explained what happened this past weekend and apologized personally to the original player affected. Our CS team also quickly called every single person affected and apologized for what had happened.
Mistakes happen and lessons were definitely learned, and we're going to be more thorough in everything that we do. Since all parties involved have no further issues with each other, I'm going to officially ask that we move beyond this. I'm going to, and I hope that you can as well. There is no reason to discuss this further. |

Put 1.3 on hold and have the whole dev team just work on that.
I plan to be here until the end, but even I'm wondering why I should continue to pay $15/month for a single player RPG?
"It's coming" "We are working hard on it" does not give the community hope...deadlines do.
Of course the response will be "we'll tell you when we can tell you." In the mean time, the un-sub counter keeps rising cause the community has nothing to look forward to, except, "checks in the mail! No really it is!"
|
We're very aware that this is the top issue facing the community right now and rest assured that the teams are working on launching this when it is ready. It's definitely one of our priorities, but we want to make sure that it is fully functional and ready before it goes live. This is why you're going to be seeing a lot of "soon"s and "we're working on it".
In sum: we are listening and character transfers are our priority.

If you have no information regarding the future of this game, the patch notes, a short list of "things that are going live within next 30 days" or "things that will be going live within next 60 days", the entire introduction is exactly as this post - worthless.
You're definitely entitled to your own opinion, and obviously game updates are incredibly important to all of us, but please note that we are the community team and not the development team. Why Do I have to visit Twitter to get TOR info ? |
1338403260 |
Hey everyone - we do use several methods to get information out there, and social media is one of those methods. However, for anything that is critical to the service (maintenance announcements and updates, etc) and for our blogs and Q&As (which often contain new information that is of interest to the community), we use multiple methods - forum posts, tweets, and Facebook posts. For instance, we put a message in our launcher, a post on our forums, and information on Twitter earlier today when we experienced issues with some of the servers after maintenance. Anytime we're sharing something important and new, you will definitely see it here and on the site, as well as on other outlets that may be more convenient for some of our community. Sorry for any confusion, and we have clarified the patch note as well to read:- Players can no longer assign keybindings to toggle off music (ctrl+M) and ambient sounds (ctrl+A) . These can still be adjusted using the sliders in the Preferences Window and all sound can still be toggled using ctrl+S.

Because of the way our servers are structured across the various datacenters, it is possible for technical issues to affect some servers but not others. This doesn't mean that we're able to take only some servers down to deploy updates to the game as a whole the way the game and updating it for all players works right now requires us to bring all the servers down when we make updates to the game. Part of our procedure is to make sure we broadcast messages on each server to inform players 15 minutes in advance when the servers are coming down for maintenance. We do this just to ensure everyone gets a warning, and it isn't often that we do bring the servers down any earlier than stated in our maintenance blogs and launcher messages. We definitely don't want to interrupt anyone's play any more than we have to! If you didn't get a warning on your server, I'd definitely like to know so that we can make sure nothing went wrong!

Official Q&A Thread for June 1st, 2012 Q&A Blog Post |
1337976720 |
Hello and welcome to the official Q&A thread for questions to be answered for the June 1st, 2012 Q&A blog post.
As a reminder, we’ll be starting up a weekly Q&A blog series in which we will select ten questions from the community and post answers to them every Friday. We’ll have the next set of answers next week on June 1st, 2012, but before that, we need your questions!
Please use this thread to ask your question (one per community member, so make it count!). On Monday at 2PM CDT (8PM BST/9PM CEST/5AM AEST), we will close this thread, select ten questions, and get answers to them for Friday’s blog post. Please note that this is a day earlier than our standard Tuesday deadline.
In order to increase the chances of having your specific question answered and to help us keep the thread manageable, here are some guidelines on asking questions:
- Keep your question relatively short. Background details are welcome, but don’t go overboard.
- Please actually ask a question. We want to hear constructive feedback elsewhere in the Forums.
- Use common sense – we cannot answer everything, especially on far-reaching content.
You’re still welcome to ask questions about future features and we’ll continue to answer them where appropriate – just expect the occasional ‘soon.’
Any other posts apart from questions in the thread will be removed.
With that being said, please ask away! |

Slicing Lock box Missions - Still not right or broke again? |
1337890320 |
And my understanding is that companion affection may alter the % chance I get for receiving a prototype (blue) case vs. premium (green) but does not affect the credit amounts found inside.
Yes. Affection alters your chance to crit. It has no impact on the result of the crit, either in item composition or credits in the boxes. Crits are the primary source of blue boxes.
"Yes, it is intended that slicing lock box missions be a risk and you won't necessarily get back the mission cost"
OR
"No, it's no intended that you should lose money by running those and we'll look into it."
Slicing does not guarantee profitability in a microcosm. Any giving slicing streak can result in a credit loss or a credit gain. There's substantial randomness in the results of the mission and the results of the box. Each box has a +/- 30% variance on credit payout. That means the top end payout is nearly 2x (85% specifically) higher than the bottom payout.
Total profitability is also not just based solely on the box. The expected profits include a baseline crit result and composition of the results from those, some of which fluctuate in value depending on the market. Those profits are ratio'd between raw credits and trade-able goods.
I feel like its better from the bug time, but worse than pre-bug and post bug. :/
Heres a timeline:
-good - (bug) terrible - (repaired) good - (now) not good but not terrible either. Verry low income.
Unless you are going quite a ways back on the timeline, there should only be two values:
A (before the bug) --> B (during the bug) --> A (after the bug fix) |

A Message from the Community Team |
1337789940 |
Hi everyone,
Ill start off by calling out the elephant in the room: yes, there was some restructuring here at the studio recently and we had to bid farewell to some of our colleagues and yes, we are all deeply saddened by this.
Their work and dedication to SWTOR will not be forgotten.
Here on the community team, weve had a bit of time to process this and were beginning to look towards the future of SWTORs community and what it means for you and for our team.
In the upcoming weeks, were going to be making a few changes and working on new initiatives in order to enhance our relationship with you, the fans, and with our developers. Well also be reintroducing the team so that you can get to know us a bit more.
As Greg Zeschuk mentioned in his forum post, we still have plenty of new, exciting content and features for the game, and were going to need your continued involvement and feedback.
Rest assured that the community team is still here, still listening: whether its here in our forums, on our official twitter account, one of the many fan sites, or the SWTOR subreddit.
Thank you all for your continuing support. |

Studio Update |
1337699040 |
Hey folks, since youre reading this you may likely have heard that weve done some restructuring here on the SWTOR team. Sadly, we are bidding farewell to some talented, passionate and exceptionally hard-working people who helped make SWTOR a reality. Impacting peoples lives this way is always very hard, but were ensuring the affected people are treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
Looking back at launch, we all came together and did something historic. We executed one of the largest, most successful and stable launches of any MMO yet in industry history. That is not an easy feat for any development team or company and we are humbled and honored by our fan communitys strong support both at launch and beyond.
Looking forward, the studio remains vibrant and passionate about our many upcoming initiatives for Star Wars: The Old Republic. We still have a very substantial development team working on supporting and growing the game, and we feel we are in a strong position, with your continued involvement and feedback, to continue to build Star Wars: The Old Republic as one of the most compelling and successful online experiences in the world today. There are many strong initiatives planned for cool new content and new features that were excited to tell you about in the upcoming weeks and months.
Rest assured that we remain dedicated to delivering a high quality service in SWTOR to you, our fans, and we will continue to support and grow Star Wars: The Old Republic over the weeks, months and years to come.
Thanks,
Greg and Ray |

@David Hunt: rethink 50k augment costs in 1.3 |
1337629620 |
Thanks very much for the feedback.
A small confession - I started responding to the augment questions in the other thread a week before I actually finished the post. During that time, we were still discussing and testing augment costs. I can't say what they'll be when Game Update 1.3 goes live, but it will be something less than 50K. |

Please allow artifice to make augment kits |
1337404380 |
For Game Update 1.3, augment kit creation is limited to the classes that can currently make augments. This is necessary for the introduction of the system; it allows us to distribute the components at a steady rate, because each augmentable item you RE results in a portion of the augment slot. The items created by the other crew skills don't fit in with this progression as cleanly - if we decide to allow Artifice or Cybertech to acquire the kits through their commonly created items, under our current systems they would produce kits substantially faster than the other skills. It is safer to open augment kits to a limited set of crew skills.
Augment tables are an important part of the plan for crafting and items in general, and we're committed to continually integrating re-evaluating the feature and integrating it into future. Our intent is to provide a system that utilizes crafting to give all gear the same statistical potential while we monitor economic data and gather player feedback to determine what other changes or additions to make. Adding augment kits to additional crew skills is on the list of possibilities, but it is by no means guaranteed. We're working on other updates to how some of the systems work - both internally and externally - that may improve the viability of including augment kits in other skills without creating a substantial imbalance. Along with the economic data and feedback, that will determine whether augment kits expand to other crew skills.
Long term, we have economic plans that involve continually refreshing crew skills with new content. Since we are early in those stages, every time we make an update it will make the most recently changed crew skills seem superior. If we included major additions for every crew skill each update at our current pace, it would likely create a result that is incomplete and devalues the system as a whole. As each crew skill gets a wider range of viable items/services, the impact of an individual addition should decrease, and we'll see a smoother cadence between the crew skills. |

Augment slot on all gear 1.3 |
1337376360 |
When you say "expected power level," what type of content are you talking about?
New endgame tier content. I can't give you exact specifics as it's not defined yet. However, it's probably safe to say that by the time you're one or two sets past Campaign and we release a new set, the content for the new set will expect your Campaign +1/+2 gear to be augmented.
That brings other question - any lev 400 armstech thing will do? FOr example, will the reverse engineering of barrel 22, give same mats, as for example RE the "elegant assault cannon" lev 50 moddable orange?
Anything that could crit craft and get an augment. So you can't get the component from a stim or a mod. |
